Here I am, sitting in bed in the middle of Kansas, reminiscing about the past months away from my country. It's my final stop now. After Kansas I will head back for home.
Some may be singing to themselves "wake me up when September ends, others sing "don't wake me up". It's not easy to say which group I fall under. But this just goes to show how significant my past few months of work and travel has been to me. It has been a summer full of bittersweet memories.
It's funny how past participants of this programme always tell us that once you return home, you will feel like the summer was just a dream and you'd wish to live it again. I'm still here, but I already feel that it has come to an end. No matter how logical thinking I am, I wish I can turn back time to start this summer all over again.
The night of September the 6th was the start of this feeling. Seeing faces for the last time, knowing that you will never see all these faces in the same place again, made it very saddening to leave. We all had a fair share of bitter experiences during work and were getting tired of working already, but we enjoyed the company of the people we met there. It was bittersweet, yet it left a gap in my heart that cannot be filled. Maybe we will meet again, but life is always full of uncertainties.
Slowly, everyone left for home and we all split up. Each day, the hole just got bigger and bigger. It has stopped growing but it will never fill up completely again.
So what is it about this summer that made it so memorable?
It was the people, the place, the weather, the food, the incidents that took place. It was everything.
I will try my best to type it all out, to share what was a memorable summer to me.
